What to send

For a valuation, use the valuation form — it asks for the photographs I actually need and saves a round of emails. To ask about a piece in the collection, use the form below; if you arrived here from a specific object its reference is already filled in. For other questions, choose the closest enquiry type and add a message below.

The more specific the question, the more useful the answer. “Is the foot ring glazed?” gets a photograph back. “Is it genuine?” gets the guarantee, which already answers it.

Detail of the six-character Kangxi reign mark, Da Qing Kangxi nian zhi, in underglaze blue within a double ring. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession 33.40.71.
The photograph that answers most questions: the mark at a scale where the brushwork can be read. Six-character Kangxi reign mark in underglaze blue within a double ring. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 33.40.71 (public domain)

What you can ask for

  • A condition report — every fault itemised, with photographs, before you commit. Please request one before deciding to buy.
  • More photographs of any detail: the mark at macro scale, the foot in raking light, the interior.
  • An offer on a piece. Prices are considered, but I would rather have a conversation than a silent discount.
  • A viewing — see arrange a viewing.
  • Help finding something that is not here. I buy continuously and can often find a comparable piece; tell me what you are after.
